How to Stay Healthy While Traveling
1. Hydrate
Just getting on a plane can be very dehydrating because the air has very little moisture at that altitude. The relative humidity can be as low as 10%, which is twice as dry as a desert. Just a 2% level of dehydration can be enough to damage your DNA. Even if it’s not the highest quality water around, your body will replace the old and used with the new for vital functions such as, cognition, social control, and energy levels.
2. Set up a sleep sanctuary
When you travel, chances are that the hotel is not optimized for you to get high quality sleep. Block out all of the light if possible and unplug any electronics. Also, lower the temperature of the hotel room for a cooler sleep temperature. Sleeping cooler (63-68 degrees) will help with sleep latency, deep sleep, and more efficient sleep cycles.
3. Earthing
Earthing is the process of having direct contact through the earth via grass, sand, and water, snow, and asphalt. The earth itself is very conductive, and is brimming with free electrons. A free radical essentially is an unpaired electron, and for it to be neutralized, it needs a free electron. This is what the earth is brimming with, and because were both conductive, it’s been shown that we can absorb these free electrons through the earth. We always talk about getting antioxidants through food, yes do that, but that doesn’t compare to the actual source of where it comes from, the earth. This practice will help your body sort things out and sync up with the earth to prevent jet lag.
