How To Think Properly- Stoicism, Different Perspectives, and How To Handle Stress

The Importance Of Thinking Properly

Thinking properly is very important. It will help you in all realms of human endeavor. It is the mind that is the most powerful thing in the known universe, an you have one. It is through developing our thought process and ways of thinking that we can transform our lives. Today, we will learn how to do just that.

Stoicism

1. Integrity

Integrity is the ability to keep your word with yourself. The more integrity you have, the more you will be able to serve others because they know they can rely on you. Integrity comes from staying true to you word, and being the change you wish to see in the world.

2. Congruency

This is about aligning your thoughts, words, and actions toward a worthy ideal. It all starts in our own mind and our own hearts. Really want to make a change, and have sincerity and earnestness everyday. Be intentional and deliberate in what you do. Make sure you have service on the mind, and freedom at the forefront.

3. Master the art of shutting the fuck up

Learning to listen and be still is key. When we become still, we can become wise because it is through the silence that we can be open and receptive to truth. Silence opens up new channels and pathways in our brain than if were always talking. Given our brains time to process and think activated the default mode network (DMN) in our brain, which is designed for problem solving. We are inundated with a plethora of information everyday. We have a ton of knowledge, but are starving for wisdom. Rarely do we stop, think, and process what we actually learned. There is a lack of deep thought and devotion to excellence. Be a light, not a shadow. Processing information and applying what we know leads to wisdom.

The Six Thinking Hats

This is a technique that I learned from accelerated learning expert, Jim Kwik. It’s about making a decisions from six different types of thinking, instead of just one or two, like most of us tend to do.

1. White hat

This is about analyzing all the facts about a given situation.

2. Red hat

This is about emotions and how you feel about a situation.

3. Black hat

This is about being a critic and what could possible go wrong.

4. Yellow hat

This is about optimism and everything that could go right.

5. Green hat

This is about possibility and thinking outside the box.

6. Blue hat

This is like the sky overseeing all the previous ways of thinking to make the decision.

Different Perspectives

1. Attunement

This is the concept of tuning into what is real. Focusing on different perspectives and becoming the greatest version of yourself. This is very important because without this you won’t know who you are. Focusing on what is real and tuning into that.

2. Listen

Being willing to listen and ask questions is very important. Being able to perspective take and be wrong. It’s very freeing when we know we don’t have all the answers and become a life long learner.

3. Understand why you have your perspective

Your perspective can be influenced by a variety of factors, and it’s not always accurate. These factors could be experiences, values, values, available knowledge, and personality. All these factors can change over time as well.

How To handle Stress

1. Breathing

Mouth breathing activates the barrel reflux in the chest, activating the sympathetic nervous system because you only can breathe shallow. When breathing through the nose, you have many structures that the air passes through in order to get filtered, and go to the lungs. When breathing through the nose, your able to get the air much deeper in the lungs, where the receptors activate relaxation. Nose breathing produces six times more nitric oxide than breathing through the mouth. Nitric oxide has been proven to protect from viruses.

2. Know your why
Knowing your why is akin to knowing your purpose. When times get hard, you can call on your why. Doing things for the people you love is a common one. One persons obedience is connected to so many peoples destines; meaning everything we do can significantly impact other people. If you don’t have a why, you will get knocked down every time. Those with a why can endure almost any how.
3. The Master Plan
What is your master plan? What is your purpose? Why are your here? These guiding questions can help you go in the right direction. Become the greatest version of yourself everyday. Look to be of service.
